Cadnant Planning
Conwy
Odour dispersion modelling was undertaken in order to understand the impact of odours at nearby sensitive land uses (i.e. residential) from a proposed slurry pit at Kinmel Park Dairy Farm in Conwy. The source odour potential combined with various influencing factors (including local meteorological conditions and topography) was considered using ADMS-6 dispersion modelling software and the outputs were used to produce illustrative odour impact ‘contours’ representing areas of impact in order to determine what might cause a significant adverse impact to nearby residents.
The results illustrated that in the baseline scenario (without mitigation) the nearby sensitive land uses would experience unacceptable adverse odour impacts. Mitigation measures in the form of slurry pit covers were advised, which were demonstrated to provide a large reduction in odour impacts experienced at nearby sensitive receptors, and subsequently acceptable/not significant odour impacts at the nearby properties
