Air quality can affect sensitive ecosystems. Different levels of protection are provided for sites ranging from local nature reserves to European Natura 2000 Sites protected under the Habitats Regulations
Air Quality Consultants has been leading the way in assessing the air quality impacts of ammonia and nitrogen deposition on sensitive ecosystems. This includes contributing to Habitats Regulation Assessments for Local Plans, as well as assessing emissions from individual developments, and agricultural activities.

Modelling
Modelled the nitrogen impacts of local plans, transport schemes, residential/mixed use schemes, power plant, waste disposal activities and agricultural activities.
Monitoring
Developed monitoring programmes for nitrogen dioxide, ammonia and other nitrogen air pollutants across Special Areas of Conservation, including Ashdown Forest, Sandwich Bay and Dorset Heaths.
Assessment
Assessed the air quality impacts on sensitive habitats using accredited methods, and worked closely with ecological specialists to determine any mitigation requirements.
Expert Witness
Provided expert witness support in relation to air quality impacts on sensitive habitats over many years, for road schemes, residential-led developments, and local plans.
