Logika Group worked with RSSB to produce the Rail Carbon Accounting Framework (RCAF), to give organisations across the rail sector a consistent, transparent way to report emissions and track progress on net zero.
CLIENT:
Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB)
LOCATION:
UK
SERVICES:
- Development of rail-sector carbon accounting framework and guidance
- Rail sector specific decarbonisation guidance
OUR APPROACH & DELIVERABLES
Recognising the need for robust, easy-to-follow guidance, Logika Group and its partners worked alongside experts from RSSB, industry, and Government to align with global carbon accounting frameworks including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ISO 14064, and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The resulting framework provides practical, step-by-step guidance on how rail organisations should collect, collate and report carbon emissions data, inspiring greater consistency across the sector.
The RCAF improves the accuracy reliability of carbon data within the rail industry, across Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, and supports the sector to achieve its net zero goals.
The RCAF consists of seven documents; four sector-specific guides (for passenger rail operators, freight operators, rolling stock organisations and infrastructure managers), guidance on target setting and decarbonisation, an introduction to rail carbon accounting, and a document containing supplementary information, for those wanting additional clarity on specific topics.
The RCAF can be viewed here
The RCAF represents the first rail-sector specific guidance for carbon accounting, aligned to the GHG Protocol and tailored to British rail operations, but transposable to rail operations in other geographies.
