GJ Planning
Princess Margaret Way, Neath Port Talbot
AQC conducted a qualitative odour risk assessment of the food vending trucks associated with a temporary fairground located in Neath Port Talbot, utilising IAQM ‘Guidance on the assessment of odours for planning’ methodology in order to determine the risk of offsite odour impact and nuisance at offsite receptors. An accompanying odour management plan was designed in accordance with the Environment Agency’s methodology to accompany the assessment in order to mitigate any potential odour impacts of the cooking activities undertaken by food vendors.
A qualitative odour risk assessment was utilised which provides activity- and location-specific assessment of the source-pathway-receptor factors contributing to potential odour nuisance. Once the odour risk of the temporary fairground food vending activities to offsite receptors was understood, an odour management plan was designed in order to mitigate these risks. This involves measures to mitigate odours in terms of controlling the source odour potential of the activities (in terms of ventilation and dispersion of odours), considering the pathway (location of the food vendors relative to nearby receptors), and the receptor (putting into place a procedure for regular checking of odours at offsite receptor locations, and a formal complaint (and subsequent reactive measures) procedure)). Overall, this ensured that the odour risk of the activities were understood and controlled sufficiently
